Cascade Space (YC X25) is a space communications infrastructure startup. We are building a ground network and system design software to support next generation spacecraft, with an emphasis on deep space exploration. Our mission is to advance space exploration and support human permanence in and around the solar system.

Working at Cascade Space

Cascade Space is a young company and our culture and ways of working will evolve as we grow. These are some goals and values we want to foster.

  • Face to face collaboration is important. It's not just about efficiency; we are social creatures and there's only so much information you can communicate over Slack or Zoom. We spend the majority of our working hours together in the office.
  • A heterogenous mix of backgrounds, perspectives, and working styles is critical to our success. We strive to ensure that people are heard and their contributions are valued.
  • We value physical and mental wellbeing. This is a young startup and we work hard, but it's not a continuous fire drill. We have healthy food in the office, take time off to recharge, stay active, and make space to invest in our lives outside of work.
  • Minimizing distractions and context switching is essential to quality and efficient work. There are company wide no-meeting blocks and it's OK to excuse yourself from a meeting if it turns out it's not relevant to you. We also understand that being bolted to a chair from 9 to 6 is not always conducive to effective work; as long as you're getting your work done and effectively communicating/not blocking your coworkers, we're flexible on schedule. If your brain is fried, go for a walk or a bike ride, take a nap, go home — whatever you need to stay engaged.
  • This is a place for learning and growth. We want you to operate just outside of your comfort zone, and want to level people up and have them stick around. It's a small company, but we aim to offer mentorship, regular performance reviews, and consistent equitable leveling.
  • As leaders, we will sometimes fail to live up to our own standards or fail to notice when things are broken. Surfacing problems is never punished, and we own our mistakes, learn from them, and fix them.
  • Psychological safety is essential for healthy and productive teams. We must all show up with empathy, emotional intelligence, and openness to other perspectives. We all work together in creating an environment where people feel comfortable raising ideas and asking questions without fear of judgement.
